Understanding cyber risk

Out of 400 employees, Village Auto Group only has one person dedicated to IT. And it knew dealerships were a possible target for cyberattacks. The dealership turned to Wipfli to proactively identify vulnerabilities.

The Challenge

With cybersecurity breaches on the rise, Village Auto Group knew it could be a target. It engaged Wipfli to assess the organization’s cyber risk, identify possible enhancements and prioritize potential issues. Wipfli’s cybersecurity professionals conducted a foundational risk assessment to identify gaps, weaknesses and vulnerabilities in the dealership’s IT and physical environments.

The Solution

During the engagement, Wipfli:

  • Analyzed potential threats, including their likelihood and impact on the dealership’s assets.
  • Evaluated administrative, technical and physical controls.
  • Probed the dealership’s network to look for weaknesses, such as missing patches or weak configurations.
  • Reviewed internal configurations, systems, applications and networks for vulnerabilities.
  • Assessed the dealership’s physical environment, policies and practices.
Wipfliā€™s team was highly professional and knew exactly what was needed. Our dealership can certainly sleep better at night knowing weā€™ve taken every step necessary to protect our information.
Robert Katz, General Manager at Village Auto Group

The results

After the assessment, Village Auto Group received a priority-focused report of its cyberthreats, which included recommendations to address vulnerabilities and reinforce security practices. With this now strong understanding of its cybersecurity position, the dealership used the priority list from Wipfli to promptly address gaps, shore up weaknesses and limit its exposure. By doing so, Village Auto Group qualified for reductions in its business insurance premiums.
