Modernizing critical health and operational systems

Midwest Medical Center outgrew its electronic health record (EHR) system and needed a total digital overhaul. With Wipfli’s support, the Illinois-based critical access hospital embarked on a multi-system digital transformation to streamline care delivery for patients and staff.

The Challenge

Midwest Medical Center’s EHR no longer met the needs of its providers or patients. But upgrading the EHR was a daunting task. It required the simultaneous transformation of other integrated systems, including programs used by the medical imaging, financial management, accounting and human resources departments. The massive, multi-system implementation was beyond the expertise and bandwidth of Midwest’s staff.

The Solution

Midwest leveraged Wipfli’s proven, best-practice methodologies for software design, implementation and change management to modernize its digital systems. The firm provided executive advisory services, project management and process redesign services, as well as helped Midwest integrate Microsoft Dynamics GP for financial, payroll and human resources with its new EHR, Cerner CommunityWorks.

We were very fortunate to have Wipfli’s help with the implementation of our electronic health record. They were able to provide the expertise we needed to be successful. A critical access hospital like ours doesn’t have the ability to hire various IT and management positions, and our current employees already wear multiple hats, so to bring in the expertise Wipfli had to offer was very effective.

The results

Equipped with a modern, easy-to-use EHR and integrated, future-ready operations software, Midwest can increase patient engagement and enhance its overall quality of care. With these new, it’s easier for patients to access their health care records — which improves operational efficiencies, enhances staff workflows and reduces care delivery costs.
